Special Guests
Bill Smith
(2:00 pm Saturday) Bill Smith from Main Line Animal Rescue has been leading the fight to improve conditions for thousands of dogs in Pennsylvania's Puppy Mills by educating the public about puppy mills. Four of Main Line Animal Rescue’s Anti-Puppy Mill Billboards are now educating drivers along the Pennsylvania Turnpike but, the most famous of Main Line Animal Rescue’s billboards was the one sponsored four blocks from Oprah's famed Harpo Studios in Chicago. The Great Oprah Winfrey, her producers, and internationally respected investigator Lisa Ling took note and created a very special program on puppy mills inviting Bill Smith as their special guest on Oprah. At Fido’s Festival USA, you will have the opportunity to meet Bill Smith and hear an informative presentation on puppy mills.
Kathy McGuire
Kathy McGuire, President and Founder of NJ Aid for Animals, will be facilitating a class on “How the Private Citizen Can Recognize and Report Cruelty.” Ms. McGuire has a degree in Marketing and is certified by the State of NJ as an Animal Control Officer and Animal Cruelty Investigator. She has been recognized by the Camden County Freeholders for her work in Camden City, NJ and given the Lourdes Hospital St. Francis Award. As a private citizen, she has “built” several cases that have led to fines and prosecution of animal abusers in the State of NJ. Since she started her own humane non-profit organization, NJ Aid for Animals in 2003, Ms. McGuire has been championing the way advising private citizens how to not only recognize animal cruelty but how to build a case for law enforcement to write summons toward convictions. Gathering evidence and connecting the dots is an important part of presenting YOUR case for successful prosecution.
“How the Private Citizen Can Recognize
and Report Animal Cruelty”
(11:00 am Saturday and Sunday)
Do you feel helpless when you see an animal that you may think is suffering from cruelty? Do you know the signs to look for? Do you know what is handled by your animal control officer in your municipality and what would be handled by law enforcement? Do you know the numbers to call? Do you know what to document before you make your call?
